Full Name: Anthony Charles Lynton Blair

Born on 6 May 1953, Edinburgh. Son of Lynton and Hazel Blair

Educated at Durham Choristers School, Fettes College, Edinburgh; St John's College, Oxford

Joined Labour Party in 1975

Called to the bar at Lincoln's Inn in 1976, and practiced as a barrister until 1983, specialising in employement and industrial law

Married Cherie Booth in 1980

Came third in May 1982 when running for the Beaconsfield Constituency (10% of the vote)

June 1983 was elected MP for the Sedgefield Constituency

First son, Euan, born - 19 January 1984

Appointed assistant Spokesman on Treasury Affairs, 1985

Second son, Nicky, born - 6 December 1985

Appointed deputy Spokesman on Trade & Industry, 1987

Columnist in The British Times Newspaper 1987-88

Daughter, Kathyrn, born - 2 March 1988

Elected to the Shadow Cabinet in October 1988, and was appointed Shadow Secretary of State for Energy

Elected to the National Executive Committee of the Labour Party in September 1992

Following the 1993 election became Shadow Home Secretary

Elected leader of the Labour Party on July 21 1994

1 May 1997, Tony Blair becomes the youngest British Prime Minister for more that a century
